Fill
The
Hole!
Don't just give up something this Lenten season... take something on!
Starting Ash Wednesday and throughout the season of Lent, there will be opportunities for you to "fill the hole" we've been talking about in The Hole in Our Gospel. Look for the displays in the Sanctuary foyers and Founders Chapel atrium. Each tag displayed will list a way in which you can make a difference in the lives of those who are needy - both in our community and around the world. Take a tag... or two... or five... and make it your Lenten project!
"What's Next?" Gathering - Sunday, February 21
As you read The Hole in Our Gospel, are
you wondering "What's Next"? What do I do with this information? Where do we start? Start thinking about it! On Sunday, February 21, we will gather at 3:00 PM in Leach Hall to brainstorm ideas about what to do to follow through with The Hole in Our Gospel.
Want
to "Fill the Hole" on an established
ministry team?
We are in need of Angel Wings volunteers to drive
people to appointments and van drivers to pick up
guests to come to the Spanish worship service on
Sunday mornings. See Check-In
to sign up for one of these opportunities and
more! |

Communion
Offering: Church Growth and Development This
Sunday, February 7, is Communion Sunday. Our
altar offering will go to Central Texas Church
Growth and Development. There is a new
movement within the United Methodist Church to
reclaim our Wesleyan heritage of starting new
churches and transforming established ones. The
United Methodist Church has set a goal of
equipping 1,000 church planters to start 650 new
congregations by 2012. Your gifts to Church Growth
and Development will help reach this goal,
enabling us to offer Christ to all people in all
places. Mark "Church Growth" in the memo
of your check and bring it to the altar with you
during communion on Sunday.

News
to Change the World
First Saturday - Meet & Greet the Troops
Join us in welcoming home our heroes from Iraq and Afghanistan for their holiday leave. We'll meet and greet this Saturday,
February 6, at DFW Airport Terminal D. Call the flight information line at 972-574-0392 late Friday night or very early Saturday morning for the recorded scheduled arrival time and location. Call again before leaving home to ensure no flight delay. Wear red, white and blue and bring a flag to wave! Parking vouchers are provided by the airport. Questions? Contact Donna Chabot (940-262-0366 or
chabot113@juno.com).
Scouting
for Food
Boy Scout Troop 700 and Cub Scout Pack 817 are
participating in the annual Scouting for Food
Campaign. Troop 700 will be delivering bags in the
central Grapevine area on Saturday, February 13,
and picking up food on Sunday, February 14. If you
would care to contribute, you may bring your food
items with you to worship on Scout Sunday,
February 14. The food will be collected by
the Troop, combined with the God Can collection,
and delivered to GRACE. Pack 817 will be
conducting their food collection in the area
surrounding Grapevine Elementary School. Their
collections will also be delivered to GRACE.
Help for Haiti
We continue to keep the people of Haiti - and all those who are helping there - in our prayers.
You may support the relief efforts by writing a check to the church and indicate “Haiti” in the memo. You may
also give online to Advance #418325 at
www.umcor.org.
We have sent our first shipment of health kits to
UMCOR. We
will be taking another collection soon. Detailed instructions
on assembling the kits are available on the “Help for Haiti” flyers in the foyer brochure racks and
on our website -
or click
here to download a PDF of the flyer.
Never Go Hungry Casseroles
Never Go Hungry Casseroles is a new opportunity for our
church family to reach out to the people from our community who come to our church seeking assistance. Jesus said, "...he who comes to me will never
go hungry" (John 6:35) and that is our mission. We want to provide
a one-dish meal (such as a casserole, soup, stew, entree
salad or some other main dish item) to feed a minimum
of four people. The food items should be fully-cooked,
prepared in a non-returnable container labeled "Never
Go Hungry Casseroles" and brought to church. The casserole should be placed in the freezer or the
refrigerator in a specially designated area for Never Go
Hungry Casseroles. If you are interested in being a part
of this vital ministry, please contact Teresa Agler at
teresaagler@gmail.com
or by phone at 817-481-6008 for further information.
Sponsors
in Waiting
We are extending our AIDS Orphans Ministry to "Sponsors In
Waiting" as we have now sponsored 170 children as a
church! We will now have a list of "wanna-be" sponsors and we will go to MCK asking for children! We will be ASKING for the
children - no longer asking for sponsors! The financial commitment
for sponsoring a child is $20 per month for 3 years
(which is equal to $240 per year or $720 total).
If you are interested in becoming a sponsor, contact
Donna Chabot at 940-262-0366 or chabot113@juno.com.
God Can
for GRACE
Bring your non-perishable food items for the GRACE pantry to the designated bins in the Sanctuary Foyer, Founders Chapel Atrium and outside the church office. GRACE's needs right now are:
Cooking oil, canned meats, dry rice, pasta, toiletries.
Click
here for a full list of GRACE Pantry's current
needs (PDF). Weekend Food
Needs
Weekend Food needs are individual packs of: easy mac,
ravioli, ramen noodles, applesauce, fruit cups, pudding cups,
breakfast bars, instant oatmeal. Please bring your donations to Room 1006 in the Family Life Center. Questions? Contact Debbie Price at
depdjp@aol.com
or 817-821-3858. More
info on Weekend Food.
Mission
Green Tip of the Week: Environmentally Safe Toilet Paper
Americans spin 400 million miles of TP off the roll each year. (If none of it were made from recycled paper, we would use up the equivalent of 50 million trees.) When shopping for any kind of recycled paper, make sure the package indicates what percentage is
post-consumer waste - that is, paper that's been recycled after people actually used it. Otherwise, papermakers can use the word "recycled" for scraps and trimmings that never even left the mill. Calling such stuff recycled is like a food label screaming "cholesterol free" on a product that never had cholesterol in the first place.
A number of big-name brands do contain 20% authentic
post-consumer waste. But the highest
post-consumer content - 80% - comes from Vermont-based Seventh Generation. If you can't convince your supermarket to stock it, you can order entire cases directly from wholesalers such as Treecycle by calling (406) 626-0200 or visiting
www.treecycle.com.
Other brands with a high recycled content available from this distributor are EcoSoft, Marcal, and White Swan.

Prayer
for Today
Last Sunday, the Chancel Choir sang an anthem
entitled "Prayer for Today." The choir
thought you all might like to revisit the lyrics
to this song by Mary M. Poulson:
God in heaven, I make my prayer
for all the people everywhere who live in fear or pain or doubt;
Whose homes are gone, and hopes run out.
God in heaven, I make my prayer
for all the children everywhere who live in terrible,
warring places; Who live with hunger and strange, sad faces.
God in heaven, I make my prayer
for all the good people everywhere who live in comfort, love and peace,
and pray sincerely for strife to cease; But who do not always hear the call
of those who live with nothing at all.
God in heaven, hear my prayer!
Help all people everywhere to come closer together in
plenty and need, And to make our world your home, indeed.
