WOW - Worship On Wednesdays this Summer

Summer vacations have you out of town on weekends? Join us on Wednesdays throughout the summer for Worship on Wednesdays! We'll worship together at 6:30 PM each Wednesday in the Sanctuary at the Heritage Campus. There will be a different speaker each week and we'll have music provided by a variety of people.

TONIGHT (June 9) - We'll wrap up leftover questions from the Q&A with the Pastors.
June 16 - Pet-friendly worship... bring your pets and we'll have a pet blessing and talk about whether pets go to heaven!
June 23-August 18 - The pastors will take turns speaking on the Ten Commandments.

Ice Cream Social to Welcome the Carr Family

Join us in welcoming Rev. Louis Carr and his family to our church! Louis will serve as our new Campus Pastor at the Heritage Campus and work with Young Adult Ministries. We will have an ice cream social and “pounding” on Saturday, June 19, at 6:00 PM in the Sanctuary of the Heritage Campus. Instead of traditional “pounding” gifts (flour, sugar, canned goods, etc.), we suggest gift cards to your local favorites! Help the Carrs get to know the area by telling them about your favorite restaurant, coffee house, market, etc. Don’t forget to include directions! Louis’s first Sunday to preach will be June 20.

T-Shirts

You may have seen a few new t-shirts around that say "First Methodist Church Grapevine." We came up with these shirts as a way of identifying our volunteers when they are working out in the community. They were first used at the GCISD Health Fair a couple of weekends ago and then again this weekend at Main Street Days. We are offering t-shirts to anyone who would like to purchase one. The cost is $10 (for all sizes S to 3XL) and proceeds will go to Missions. We continue to take pre-paid orders through June 20. The shirts will be available for pick-up by June 27. Place your order using the Check-In in Sunday's bulletin and attach your check.

Donate Your Talents Follow Up

Thank you to all of you who filled out the yellow form offering to donate your talents and professional skills to those in need. Please be patient with us as we get organized and devise a system to access this information and to match up skills with needs in our community. If you did not yet fill out a form, it is not too late to let us know you would like to help! E-mail your profession and/or skills to  beverlyc@fumcg.org

God Can for GRACE

Bring your non-perishable food items for the GRACE pantry to the designated bins in the Sanctuary Foyer, Founders Chapel Atrium and outside the church office. GRACE's needs right now are: Cooking Oil, Kid's Cereal, Diapers (size 5), Laundry Detergent, Canned Peaches, Canned Pineapple, Juice (orange, apple, etc.), Spaghetti and Sauce, Sugar (4lb. bags).

Mission Green Tip of the Week: Green Laundry
One laundry problem persisting today is nonylphenol ethoxylates, synthetic surfactants (short for "surface active agents") that help water penetrate fabric more thoroughly and remove oil and dirt. Still used by some manufacturers, these chemicals can interfere with fish reproduction by acting as endocrine disruptors--substances that change or block normal hormone activity in the body, potentially causing illness or interfering with fetal development. Look for detergents that use natural ingredients (like plant-based surfactants and soy-based softeners) are free of phosphates, nonylphenols, and artificial fragrances, which can exacerbate allergies; and are certified biodegradable by Scientific Certification Systems. While conventional brands often choose not to list their ingredients, crying "trade secret," eco friendly ones like those made by Seventh Generation and Ecover generally let it all hang out.

Evening Precepts Bible Study Interest
We are considering an evening Precepts Bible Study class and looking to see who might be interested. The Precepts Inductive Bible Study method studies the text of scripture first and refers to the work of others second. It takes you directly to the Bible as your primary source using a straightforward investigative approach. Individual time is spent observing Scripture to know what the Bible says, using principles of interpretation to understand what it means, culminating in personal application. Weekly homework is included in this study. It's a very rewarding experience! Contact Nancy Johnson at pajnaj@verizon.net or 817-424-0297 for more information or to indicate your interest in this class. Day, time and location will be determined based on the needs of those who express an interest.

Depression Connection: Gain Understanding, Help and Hope
When suffering from depression/ bipolar or a related disorder, learn what helps and what hurts. Our Depression Connection support group meets in Room 4 at the Heritage Campus, 7:00-8:30 PM. The group is structured to include approximately ten individuals and a licensed, trained facilitator. In addition to an opportunity to communicate about one’s individual concerns, an educational component is included in each meeting. Research confirms that people who participate in regular support groups often experience a better quality of life and a greater likelihood of recovery from the symptoms of depression, anxiety disorder and bipolar disorder. Questions? Contact Katherine Hunter at 817-481-2559 x 130 or katherineh@fumcg.org

Prayer Team Meeting
The Prayer Team will not be gathering for a Sunday afternoon meeting the month of June, but please join us for our morning prayer time Sunday, June 20, from 8:15 to 8:45 AM in Room 2002 of the Family Life Center. During this time we will pray for the pastors and ministries of our church. We hope to see you there!

Thank you from the Scriveners
As the Scriveners prepare this week to leave for a new appointment, we are thankful for the opportunity we have had to serve with you in this place. It has been a privilege to serve, first, the Heritage United Methodist Church, and then FUMC Grapevine at the Heritage Campus. We especially thank you at the Heritage campus for the send-off this past Sunday—your presence, cards, gifts, words of appreciation and well-wishes are things we will always treasure. We are excited about your future, and know that great things are in store for Grapevine because of you; and we wish you all the very best of every good thing. You will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers.
With love and affection!
Randy, Naomi and Nathan

Dream Team Need

First United Methodist Church of Grapevine recognizes the diverse gifts of the Body of Christ, and seeks to strengthen children and adults, who are temporarily or permanently affected with life changes, such as physical, developmental, or cognitive disabilities. The Dream Team Special Needs Ministry was created to provide support and opportunities to experience a personal relationship with God and fellowship within the church. We believe people with disabilities should have the opportunity to learn and grow in their Christian faith through a loving and nurturing environment adapted to accommodate their special needs.  One of our families is seeking the following:

Part-time respite caregiver needed for 15 year old special needs boy. Will is not medically fragile, is verbal and ambulatory, but would need help with transfers.   Respite responsibilities could include preparing snacks and participating in recreational activities. Most care will be done in-home, however, some community outings are possible.

This paid position has very flexible hours that will include some evenings and weekends. Applicants must be at least 18 years old; have a valid Texas driver’s license; and pass a background check.

For more information please contact Joan O’Brien at 817-329-6649.
