WOW - Worship On Wednesdays

WOW is a fun, energizing mid-week recharge! One worshipper says, "I've enjoyed the different musicians on Wednesday nights and getting to hear all our different pastors preach on the 10 commandments. I think WOW is a refreshing mid-week chance to connect with God." Join us throughout the summer for Worship on Wednesdays at 6:30 PM in the Sanctuary at the Heritage Campus. There is a different speaker each week and music is provided by a variety of people. The sermon series is on the Ten Commandments. Childcare is provided.

TONIGHT: Armando speaking | Josh leading music

Refresh Everything with a Community Computer Club at Cannon Elementary!

We have been maintaining around 85th-89th place in the voting for the Pepsi Refresh Project. So we need to get on the ball with our voting! We have until the end of the month to get into the top 10 to receive funding for our idea... a community computer lab to be located at Cannon Elementary. If we get the most votes, we get a $25,000 grant to make it a reality! Remember to go to http://pep.si/9pgG0N and vote EVERY DAY through July 31!  Pass it on to your friends/acquaintances too! Note that you do have to log in in order to vote. If you're a Facebook user you can use your Facebook login. Visit our website for more details.

Children & Youth Village Meeting

We continue to pursue efforts to help those in need through our "Villages" - Children/Youth, Grapevine, Costa Rica and Kenya. We plan to have the vision for the Children/Youth Village finalized before school starts in August. If you are interested in helping, please join us for our next Children/Youth meeting on Sunday, July 25, at 12:30 PM in Room 2011.

Nursery Workers Needed!

News to Change the World

Top Needs This Week

  • Money for ceiling fans. The Grapevine Housing Authority has suggested that a great way to help our neighbors reduce their electric bills is by providing ceiling fans. There are 98 apartments within the Authority. Your $35 contribution will purchase a 52-inch fan. The storage and installation of these fans will be done through the City of Grapevine. Please indicate "ceiling fan" on your payment. Questions? Contact Bev Campisi at beverlyc@fumcg.org

  • Window A/C Unit. One of our Grapevine Village families is looking for a used A/C window unit for their mobile home. They had 3 and 2 have gone out. If you have one to donate, please contact Rev. Armando Alvarado at armandoa@fumcg.org

  • See needs for GRACE below.

On-Call Movers Needed
Got a truck/trailer? Like to move furniture to maintain those muscles? Let Bev Campisi add you to her On-Call Movers and Shakers list for helping transport donated furniture items at various times. Contact Bev at beverlyc@fumcg.org

GRACE Transitional Housing Needs
We are partnering with GRACE's Transitional Housing program as several apartments are being readied for single women to move into this summer and fall. If you find that you will have furnishings to donate that are in very good condition, please know that the God Squad, who readies these new homes for their clients, is always on the lookout for the following items: coffee tables, end tables, lamps, area rugs, night stands, bed frames, good mattress sets in twin and double sizes, comforters and sheet sets, art work, TVs with DVD players, working washers and dryers. Their standards are high, using only the best they can as they make a new home for someone who has been without. We also have need for more guys who can be available with their muscles and trucks or trailers to pick up and deliver furniture. If you are interested in donating or volunteering, please contact Bev Campisi at beverlyc@fumcg.org. You may read more about GRACE Transitional Housing at www.gracegrapevine.org

God Can for GRACE
Bring your non-perishable food items for the GRACE pantry to the designated bins in the Sanctuary Foyer, Founders Chapel Atrium and outside the church office. The GRACE pantry is currently out of pasta and table size salt & pepper. Other current needs include: Sugar, Cooking Oil, Kids Cereal, Canned Peaches, Pancake Mix, Ramen Noodles, Oatmeal, Tomato SAUCE, Tomato Paste, Canned Meats, Dry Pinto Beans (2 lbs. Bags), Mustard, Ketchup and Mayo.

Mission Green Tip of the Week: Go Low Flow
Water is a great example of something that is so cheap--less than a penny a gallon--that we take it for granted. We run the tap when we brush our teeth (at two gallons wasted per minute), we ignore leaks (5 to 10 percent of American homes are losing ninety gallons of water a day through leaks), and the result is that we end up spending $500 a year per household on something that is supposedly practically "free". Fix leaky pipes and fixtures, see www.hzouse.org. As the Environmental Protection Agency points out, water is a finite resource. Even though 70 percent of the planet is covered by it, less than 1 percent is available for human use. The U. S. government predicts water shortages in 36 states between now and 2013. The good news is it's possible to use up to 35 percent less water by making some fairly simple changes in our homes. Along with conserving this literally life-sustaining resource, you can save about $160 a year in the process. See ways to save water, www.wateruseitwisely.com/100ways

Mission Swim
The Tweens have been hard at work on their Monday Mission Swims. Meet each Monday in the Family Life Center for devotional at 8:30 AM. Then we'll head out to do our mission work, and then go swimming. Questions? Contact Children's Intern Elyse Hahne at nathanf@fumcg.org.

KidBells Camp
All kids going into fourth through sixth grade are invited to join us for a Kids Handbell Camp. If you've ever wanted to try handbells, this would be your opportunity to see if it's something you would like to do! Join David Platt as we learn to ring bells. There's a whole lot more to it than just shaking them. You'll be surprised and amazed at the wonderful sounds they make as we learn to make music together. Ultimately we would like to be playing in worship services. Put it on your calendar and join us on August 4-6, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Popsicle Party
Thank you all for helping to make the popsicle event at Shady Oaks last Wednesday such an amazing event! Thank you for your willingness to step outside your comfort zones to bring such energy and joy to the folks living at Shady Oaks. Thank you for cooking/wrapping all those hot dogs, coming up with the perfect 20 gallon lemonade recipe, freezing all those popsicles, bringing your kids to engage the Shady Oaks kids in play, connecting with the residents and being brave with your Spanish! And thank you for engaging the more hesitant residents of the park and for your hearts that demonstrated God's love out there in such a practical way! Click here to see more photos.

Benevolence Thank You
I want to take this opportunity to humbly thank you for helping me with financial rental assistance. In trial and challenging circumstances, I've learned to trust and faithfully depend on Him and his guidance. I deeply appreciate your kindness.
Matthew 25:40 ".....I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me."
I will always be grateful for what you did to make a difference in my life today. May God continue to bless your church and the many ministries you provide.
Sincerely, Sandra
