What If...

What If...A Four-Part Initiative to Reach People in Need

Lately we’ve been asking ourselves, “What’s next?” What big thing can we do to reach out to people in need? We started asking questions like... What if no one lacked water? What if our children knew what it was like to be in need? What if we could help people with education? Or self-sufficiency? Or affordable housing?

The Compass Team met over the course of several weeks to discuss these questions and dream about the possibilities. The result is a four-part initiative to help our children and youth gain a global perspective and change lives in Kenya, Costa Rica and right here in Grapevine. Our plan as of right now is to continue pursuing details in each area, meeting and planning throughout the summer. By the time school starts back, we hope to have plans in place to fulfill the needs we see in Grapevine and around the world! Here's a look at the four areas...

Children and Youth

The Children and Youth group is discussing ideas for how we can incorporate a global perspective into our current pathway for educating children and youth. The group has mostly completed its work and will announce some new and exciting things on Sunday, August 22!

Kenya Village

We are exploring the possibility of continuing our work in the Meru area while partnering with World Vision. The next meeting will be: TBA

Costa Rica Village

A short exploratory trip went to Costa Rica in late May. The next meeting will be for parents of youth who are interested in going on a mission trip to Costa Rica. We will meet on Sunday, September 19, at 4:00 PM in the HUB.

Grapevine Village

The group is focused on education, self-sufficiency and jobs. Property development possibilities are also a topic of discussion, particularly surrounding the Shady Oaks trailer park on Scribner Street. We have worked to help many of the residents who live in that area. The next meeting of this group will be: TBA

What is the Compass Team?

The Compass Team is an on-going long range planning group of the church. The membership of the Compass team is elected each year by the church conference. They meet to discuss the direction of the church, areas of weakness and strength and future plans. They held a series of meetings in March after the “What if” meeting. They worked with the ideas presented there and came up the with Village concept as a direction for the mission work of the church.
